Obviously, I'm never going to be 7 feet. So I've got to make the best of what I've got. He woke up every morning with a positive attitude…. Every day when I'm tired or I think I have it bad I look at what he went through and things don't seem that quite so bad anymore. He always treated me like a man and he helped me grow up to be the man I am today. I'm only , and often times I may have a guy a little taller on me.
So I have to use my strength to move people around and get the job done. I think that made him understand, really understand, what it means to play for a title. At Miami Senior he didn't average a lot of points or rebounds, but he just won. He's a selfless guy who knows what is best for the team.
He knows how to scare people. He knows how his man's defending him in relationship to where the ball is on the floor. He's got great hands.
He's position-conscious. And he can score around the goal and draw a foul. It's going to be a challenge to be able to defend him-particularly because he's got good perimeter players around him who can shoot it behind the arc, which will stretch us out defensively. Haslem is the guy that makes them awfully good.
He's the best low post player I've seen with hands, positioning, competitiveness, runs the court as good as anybody. The key is foul trouble. Now we don't intentionally go after him. He's too smart for that. I don't care what he does for the rest of the year.
I think he's the best man in the league. He's one of the best post players in the league. The only way to really slow him down is to get him on the bench in foul trouble or something. That's a credit to him and their staff. They really work on developing their players.
He puts a tremendous amount of foul pressure on you when he takes the ball to the basket. Then a kid that big steps up and knocks down free throws. If he gets position, he plays like he's 7 feet. He's always been a very intelligent player when it comes to gaining position, sealing, posting and catching the ball in the low post.
He's very effective. Because last year, late in the season, there was not a bigger force offensively in the league than he was in scoring. When they need a basket, a play, a momentum-breaker, Udonis Haslem always seems to be there - reliable, ready to deliver. But it doesn't matter until we prove it on the court. Donovan is a guy who has plans and ideas and wants to build something. I like the way he uses his legs to get post-up position. And the way you have to cover Florida's three's, he gets isolated one-on-one, then does something with it.
He had a great night. He's got great footwork, great hands, great moves. He remembers a lot. We've got a lot of sets, a lot of defenses and a lot of out-of-bounds plays, and he understands them. He's got a very, very high basketball IQ. Explore Wikis Community Central. Register Don't have an account? Udonis Haslem. View source. History Talk 0.
