With the HGTV trend to set cabs on top of the finished floor the extra height isn't needed. Thanks John Don't take life too seriously. No one gets out alive anyway! One common mistake is forgetting to allow for the height of flooring that may be installed after the cabs are in place.

Scott Vroom I started with absolutely nothing. Now, thanks to years of hard work, careful planning, and perseverance, I find I still have most of it left. Originally Posted by scott vroom. These standard sizes are not ideal for all kitchens, which is why some people opt for custom cabinetry. It all depends on the layout of your kitchen and the amount of space you are working with.

But it was on him to ensure that the finished product was as perfect as could be because he knew there was a significant change in the level of the floor from one side of the room to the other.

He took some pieces out and adjusted for the un-level floor and the result was perfection. Your uneven floors are not the cabinet makers fault especially if they were not brought to his attention before the install. A good compromise would be for him to come back and fix it along with the less than perfect corner joining and for you to cover part or all of his costs. Just for the record, you note that the home is 40 years old.

It was customary for many homes of this vintage with hardwood floors to have shoe mold applied on all baseboards, even when the flooring was installed before the baseboards. The choice, however, is yours. And I don't think it is imperative to install it in your closets. Molly Phillips 8 years ago. Laura 8 years ago. Good use of otherwise wasted space.
