Can you feed leopard geckos fruit

What Geckos eat fruits and vegetables? Papaya, figs and raspberries have excellent calcium-to-phosphorus ratios, so they are preferred by most geckos. Although geckos may enjoy banana, peach, nectarine or cantaloupe, and although these foods are nontoxic, they have very poor calcium-to-phosphorus ratios. Can Lizards Eat Fruits and Vegetables? Lizards are omnivores, which means their diet consists of both animal and plant matter, including fruits and vegetables. However, some fruits and vegetables are more beneficial for lizards than others.

Vegetables you can offer include frozen mixed vegetables, squash, zucchini, sweet potato, bell pepper, broccoli, peas, beans, okra, carrot and sprouts. You should avoid feeding them with rhubarb, starfruit, and avocado.

You can also avoid fruits like nectarine, banana, or peach or give them in moderation. This is because they have inadequate calcium to phosphorus ratio. It is best to feed your leopard geckos only as a treat, whether they are hatchling or adult. This is because fruits do not have nutritional benefits to your gecko. However, you can gut load insect feeders with fruit 24 hours before you feed your gecko. You just have to ensure that the insect is not bigger than the space between your gecko eyes.

Furthermore, you can feed hatchling leopard geckos every day while juveniles and adults can eat every other day. Leopard geckos are crepuscular, and the best time to feed them is around dawn or dusks. The amount of food to feed your gecko should be the ones it can eagerly eat within a few minutes.

Once your gecko is done eating, ensure you clear out the uneaten insects. This is because leftover insects can rot or even nimble your gecko and cause stress. When offering fruit to geckos, ensure you wash the fruit before you give your pet.

This helps to remove bacteria and pesticide residues on the fruit. Fruit I apologize for not mentioning the low acid stuff.. Stay away from citrus fruit. I mainly use banana, apple, cantaloupe, watermelon and pear.. I also use apple and sometimes pineapple..

A friend squash's grapes for his two Leo's but like i said its mostly a treat every 2 weeks.. As far as veggies go- I use just carrots , celery, broccoli or vegetable baby food.. Not trying to start a debate or anything here, just want to mention, you say its frowned upon cause its not natural..

But whats natural about spending their lives in glass tanks and plastic tubs, they are already completely out of their environment. Might as well give them some kind of options.. Why in the heck would you WANT to feed your leopard gecko fruit? It's not appropriate, it's not healthy for them, they DON'T like it. If they eat it, it's because they either are looking for hydration from it or they're starving. If you want a gecko that eats fruit, get a crested gecko or other New Caledonia species.

These aren't toys, they're real living breathing animals. Another time this is acceptable is if your leopard gecko has severe vision issues, such as blindness. Before feeding them something like that though, I strongly advise you check in with your local veterinarian first to make sure this is safe to feed them. Before getting to that point, though, make sure to try feeding them fatty insects first as they will very rarely turn these types of bugs down due to their addictive nature.

Fruit and vegetables are and always will be something that you try to feed them only when all else fails, but should never be foods to turn to as a replacement for their insect diet. Can Leopard Geckos eat fruit?
